Select a well-ventilated and dust-free area to varnish your painting. Open your windows wide open. It's best to work indoors to avoid any potential weather-related issues. Lay down a clean cloth, cardboard or plastic sheet to protect your workspace.
Step 3: Apply the Varnish
Using a clean and soft brush specifically designed for varnishing or a sponge type of brush, apply the varnish in thin and even strokes. Work from top to bottom, ensuring full coverage. Avoid over-brushing, as it may lead to unevenness or streaks in the varnish.
I've put the varnish in a plastic container and I soak the sponge in it. You can also apply small amount of varnish directly on the painting. It's completely up to you which way you want to do it.
Step 4: Let it Dry
Allow the first coat of varnish to dry completely as per the manufacturer's instructions. This usually takes a few hours, but it's best to be patient and not rush the process.
Step 5: Apply Additional Coats (Optional)
Depending on the desired level of sheen and protection, you can apply additional coats of varnish. Be sure to let each coat dry completely before applying the next.
